Corten steel
What is Corten Steel?
Corten steel is a metal alloy. The strength is comparable to that of other alloy steels such as stainless steel.
Corten steel is a weather-resistant steel and the brown rust color is the most typical external characteristic.
The rust-coloured and very dense oxide skin protects the underlying material. Due to the oxide skin, it is not necessary to paint the material.
All Corten steel products that we sell still have the appearance of "clean" metal. The warm natural color is formed by a natural rusting process.
You can accelerate this rusting process. This can be done as follows:
- First degrease the steel with a cleaning agent
- Dissolve 3 large tablespoons of salt in 10 liters of water
- Apply the salt solution liberally with a plant sprayer or watering can.
The rusting process can also be stopped. When the Corten steel has acquired the desired rust color, you can treat the metal with Corten steel varnish.
